So You Want to Know How to Quit Smoking Cigarettes

You don’t need to be embarrassed if you need help to find out how to quit smoking cigarettes. Years ago people really didn’t have any help available when they were ready to quit and simply needed to tough it out, dealing with the cravings and mood swings and everything else that came with smoking cessation the best they could. This may be one of the reasons why so many people failed to quit for good! But today there are many options available when it comes to help to quit smoking and thankfully, many of those options are very effective!

Many turn to nicotine replacement products for help on how to quit smoking cigarettes. This might include patches, gum or pills. Over time the body learns how to go without nicotine when these remedies are used till eventually you can function quite happily without it. These products typically come in scheduled doses, meaning you use certain ones for the first two weeks after quitting, then a different dose for another two weeks, and so on. Little by little the nicotine is reduced until it is eliminated from your system. This can be a great help, as opposed to just giving up cigarettes for good all at once.

There are also things you can do if you need help to quit smoking “cold turkey.” You could use a herbal remedy such as Cigarest or many doctors recommend that you exercise as much as possible and drink lots of water when you give up cigarettes. The water will help to flush out the nicotine, tar, and other toxins from your body as will the sweat produced when you exercise. If you can get them out of your system your cravings will lessen dramatically. The jumpy feeling that some people feel when they stop smoking can be helped enormously by taking exercise. These may seem like elementary things but they do really help to quit smoking and help with the other unpleasant side effects of stopping suddenly.

You might assume that you won’t need help to quit smoking but it’s best to be prepared, just in case. Stock your cupboards up with plenty of healthy snacks and water and give a nicotine patch a go. Take time to exercise, and talk to your doctor if you’re still struggling. They will probably be able to suggest a treatment that they feel would be best suites to you individually.
